The Heirs Episode 17 Fashion Recap and Review:
A devastated Kim Tan lurked around the city in search for Eun Sang. But after searching in vain, he gave up and headed home.
He confronted his father, who refused to tell him Eun Sang’s whereabouts.
After getting frantic messages from Kim Tan, Chan Young asked his dad if he knows anything about Eun Sang’s disappearance. His dad didn’t spill anything except that he helped Eun Sang and her mom escape to a safe place and they will call once they have settled.
Eun Sang’s disappearance resonated in the classroom. Lee Bo Na even made snide remarks that someone (Rachel Yoo) must have done something to upset her. Rachel Yoo shows restrain that must have been bred in her because she says nothing about it.
Lee Bo Na is looking all too cute for her own good in this grid-patterned coat and camel-tone bow.

Rachel Yoo gives Bo Na a run for her money with a jacket boasting of caped shoulders. Now, I love Bo Na’s coat for what it is but the cape detail of Rachel’s won me over.

In comes Kim Tan in yet again another parka jacket, asking Chan Young about Eun Sang. Chan Young is becoming irritated at this point. I would too if I was suddenly relegated as Eun Sang’s tracking system.
In fact, I’m surprised Lee Bo Na isn’t the least bit irritated with these two. Young Do also has the same questions to Chan Young.
As usual, Young Do is looking spiffy in this double-breasted coat.
After not getting anything from Chan Young, Kim Tan resorted to talking to her pseudo mom, Jeguk High Chairwoman, aka the woman who dresses better than women half her age.
You have to give her props for taking on coat silhouettes that women younger than her would probably shy away from. Take this padded coat, for example.
Young Do, on the other hand, has taken it upon himself to investigate Eun Sang’s belongings that are still left in the broadcasting club. Hyo Shin sunbae looked pretty miffed about Young Do’s presence in the room although he paled in comparison next to the imposing YD and his handsome-looking coat.
Esther Lee dressed up to impress. Unfortunately, not even her teardrop earrings and gorgeous blue coat with the equally gorgeous flower brooch can save her mood when she found out Young Do’s dad is in trouble with the tax officers.
I’m not usually impressed with Kim Won’s style in this drama. I tend to overlook him but he does make some effort in making his office suits look different.
Kim Tan took his digging around to the next level by taking his home’s CCTV footage from these reluctant guards.
On a lesser guy, this outfit would have looked comical. The tweed and leather jacket actually looks rad. I bet any fashion-forward guy would want to get his hands on it. But that turtleneck sweater with the collar of a shirt protruding from it seems a tad excessive. Perhaps a simple shirt or a knitted sweater would have sufficed?

Lee Min Ho’s shirt is from Gucci, his shirt is from Paul Smith, his shoes are from Nike and his pants are from Nudie Jeans.
Kim Tan’s religious search for any clues about Cha Eun Sang’s disappearance has led him to this footage. It’s Eun Sang saying goodbye to him over the cameras. I felt like Eun Sang was being thoughtless here. She should have known this would hurt Tan even more.
Light bulb moment for Choi Young Do here. He figured he’d pose as Cha Eun Sang and mess up with Hotel Zeus’ web page to get the authorities involved in searching for her.
Nothing beats a classic black sweater with a crisp collared white shirt underneath. Sometimes, it’s understated style like these that really tug at my style-loving heartstrings.
But trust Young Do to keep his outfit a tad more interesting my throwing on this ridged coat. If you don’t want to add prints to your ensembles, try texture. It breaks off the monotony of a monochromatic attire.

Myung Soo is also in this scene. I sometimes think he is Kim Tan’s style soul mate because of how Kim Tan’s clothes sometimes echo in Myung Soo’s. Take this coat and turtle neck ensemble, for instance.
Eun Sang’s old phone number is now being used by someone else. Kim Tan bought it off from the owner, promising to pay any amount.
Cha Eun Sang and her mom relocated to the countryside. We’ll later find out that Kim Tan’s dad originally planned them to go out of the country. But Chan Young’s dad stepped in and helped them out before they can even do that.

Now that Cha Eun Sang is off school duty, she is working in this bookstore.
Her mom, on the other hand, isn’t as lucky. Nobody wants to hire her because of her disability.
Kim Tan finally found the place where Eun Sang last purchased supplies from.
You can’t pry Kim Tan away from his long trench coats but this is definitely a step from his usual solid-colored ones. I’m not sure if the coat should intentionally slouch over his shoulders or if this is a misfit. I do love the print though. Very F/W 2013.

He eventually found Cha Eun Sang.
Inner stalker kicks in and Kim Tan just follows her covertly. He registers Eun Sang’s defeated expression and decided not to make his presence known. It turned out that Kim Tan blamed himself for Eun Sang’s plight. He thought he caused this to happen to her.

Young Do’s Operation Find Cha Eun Sang method proved to be effective. For a while there though, I thought he was wearing a dress coat.

Eun Sang was surprised to find Young Do. The police officers didn’t bat an eyelash when Young Do rushed to hug Eun Sang in front of everyone.
Unlike YD, Cha Eun Sang dressed up in an oversized hoodie. It doesn’t really need much elaborating.

In the past, I wondered what will happen if Eun Sang ends up with Young Do. Will his father take the same measures Kim Tan’s dad did? Somehow, this scene crystallized my second ending version.
After hearing about Hotel Zeus being focused on for a tax evasion case, Esther Lee expressed her desire to pull out of the engagement.
This fur coat looks like the Red Valentino magenta fur coat Rachel Yoo wore a few episodes back. Should we dub Esther the queen of accessories now? This woman never goes out without her chunky necklaces and statement earrings.
I do miss Rachel Yoo’s outfit outside school so this is a special treat. She mixes up her lace top with a black skirt and a modern jacket. And in true Rachel Yoo fashion, she kicked the color meter up a notch with her pink bag.

There’s no way but down for Kim Tan. He decided he isn’t going to see Eun Sang anymore because he doesn’t want to cause her more misery. He is looking pretty miserable himself but not in the style department. I love the maroon coat. The play of prints courtesy of his sweater and inner shirt makes an interesting statement.

Hyo Shin talks to Hyun Joo after a long time of avoiding her. But this only brought him more heartache because he found out accidentally that Hyun Joo dated/is dating Kim Won.
Pink coats seem to be a staple for everyone’s wardrobe for Fall and Winter 2013. Here’s Hyun Joo sporting the trend. I love this old rose shade of pink. It’s a breath of fresh air amidst the somber-colored coats we have seen in this episode.
Self-destruction Step 1: Get into fights.
Step 2: Have your rich brother bail you out.
But really, Kim Won, have you got no other coats to wear? Not a fan of this one.
Kim Tan, on the other hand, is looking the worse for wear. Understandably so, since that coat must have been suffocating him. Kidding! Why does it remind me of a pug?

So what’s the next chapter to the Rachel Yoo – Hyo Shin love story? Here it is. Hyo Shin overhears Rachel talking about Ivy League in one of the curtained beds in the school’s clinic.
The necklace under the collar style is getting under my skin. Making a mental note to try this in the future. It should easily take the place of a bow. Plus, if you are a fan of collared shirts, you won’t have to sacrifice your love for necklaces.
The support team congregated again in Myung Soo’s studio!
Lee Bo Na’s stellar outfit had me mentally nodding approval. She sported a white shirt (with a cute collar to boot!) with an origami skirt. The styling is spot-on. She wore a pair of tights with ankle boots.
The love of her life, Chan Young, dressed up simply in his usual garb – a plain sweater with a printed shirt underneath, loafers and a pair of trousers.

Myung Soo had the same styling ideas, but he amped it up with a patterned cardigan.
I’m not too crazy with Young Do’s attire for the day.
At the Jeguk Group meeting, Kim Tan’s battered face was the object of everyone’s attention.

Kim Tan is going downhill fast and guess who is there to give him a sound kick? Young Do! KT tried to pick up a fight with some guys on his way out of a club but YD came to his rescue. KT lied on the sidewalk in defeat and told YD he can have Eun Sang.
Choi Young Do, of course. KT might not be looking his best but he still seems to be in full possession of his fashion faculties.
I love Kim Tan’s ensemble. The jacket was the perfect accompaniment to the houndstooth-printed shirt underneath. Not many would wear it with a pair of blue and yellow kicks but it’s definitely copy-worthy.

After seeing Young Do in one too many black coats this episode, I was just wishing he’d finally break out of his black phase and wear something on the other side of the color spectrum. But I think that would be uncharacteristic.
